A day without rain - what a surprise!

The first part of our route took us on quiet roads along a couple of lagoons, sometimes reaching the sea, but with little habitation. Some pine forests, then fields of tomatoes,  courgettes and potatoes. There were lots of colourful wild flowers lining the road.

We passed the nondescript town of Lesina after 45km, the first settlement of the journey. After that, constricted by a river, railway and motorway the road became busier and we had to continue on the fairly busy coast road for another 30km to Termoli as there were no quieter alternatives. Fortunately the road had a broad shoulder, so we felt reasonably safe, but found the noise oppressive. Though this road seemed ro go through the middle of nowhere it had developed its own little industry. In nearly every lay by a lady was sitting or standing touting for the custom of the passing truckers! At first we were surprised to see these lone women, until after the first couple it dawned on us why they were there. It was a relief to take a back road into Termoli and to follow the coast on a lovely cycle path for a while.

 The main road had enabled us to keep up a good average speed, unlike the rougher lanes we've generally been riding on and we covered 105km reasonably quickly to arrive at this campsite just before Vasto.

We rewarded ourselves for the effort with a large pizza!
