Brunnen to Horw - short and very, very wet!

Today has been our shortest ride and the wettest - even amongst many wet ones!

It was raining when we woke up, so we ate breakfast and packed everything inside the tent, then we waited for a lull. Eventually we could see blue sky to the north and sure enough the sun came out. The tent dried in no time, we changed into shorts and set off around the beautiful lakeside road. After about ten minutes the clouds reappeared,  we stopped to don more layers and waterproofs and cycled the few kilometres to the ferry crossing which was on our route. Today is a bank holiday here, we were unaware of this, so had had a limited breakfast as no shops were open. However there was a café at the ferry terminal where we dried out a bit and devoured a couple of croissants each.

 As we crossed the lake the rain increased and as we started cycling along the other shore we could hear thunder rumbling around in the surrounding mountains.

 We had hoped to cover fifty or sixty kilometres today, but given our late start and the wait for the ferry - combined with a long coffee and (multiple) cake break to escape the downpour - we'd only cycled about 30km by 3pm when we came to the campsite at Horw and decided to call it a day. The lady on check-in took one look at us and said "You're not planning to camp in this are you?" She had another idea and has installed us in the awning of one of their static caravans. We have a solid floor, a full-size table, headroom and electricity and are reasonably cosy. The cost is the same as a large size camping pitch.
Eventually we did find a supermarket open, so will be able to cook an evening meal in our luxurious lodging.

Hopefully the weather will improve tomorrow - it's a pity it is so bad as this is a really beautiful area. The forecast isn't great, but should be better than today.
I suppose the plus side is that the mountains look very dramatic and wild!
