We've had a very long and hot ride today. The morning was fine and we made very good progress, but after our picnic lunch in the rather fine town of Sabbioneta, the heat really began to take its toll. The last 20km to Cremona were along a dead straight road - the Roman Via Flamminia in fact - there was no shade and the only light relief was watching what we think were coypu - lots of them - swimming in the neighbouring river.
We're at the campsite by the Po in Cremona and tomorrow we'll spend the day looking round the town and paying homage to Stradivari ed al at the violin museum.
Ben has been speculating how to carry a cello home, should he find a nice one here!
I think that problem would be small in comparison to the size of our credit card limit, so he won't be cycling over the Alps with a Strad on his back ........
