The first half of today's ride was very pleasant and flat around Lake Lugano. As ever with these lakes - beautiful views, mountains and lovely villas. After Agno we left the lake and headed uphill. At first on a dirt track which was exhausting, then on small roads which was a bit easier. We had to get over Monte Ceneri and the bad news is that the descent was so far that in spite of all our efforts we are now at a lower level than we were this morning.
All to be regained tomorrow!
We're at the campsite in Bellinzona, which though rather small and crowded has excellent facilities.
In Italy it was rare to find loo paper, soap or even a loo seat at campsite toilets (We have found a few exceptions to this - Cremona, Kokopelli and Ravenna all had excellent facilities). There is also still a fair proportion of turkish toilets both at campsites and in bars.
Swiss campsites are very expensive in comparison, but always well equipped and very clean.
Melano to Bellinzona - 61km, 800m climb.
