Turckheim to Molsheim - the rain is back

We packed a dry tent and set off, but though the forecast had implied that there would be very little rain, it drizzled (or more) most of the day.

We found the energy to wander around the lovely town of Turckheim yesterday evening

Undulating between the vines

Today's route was mainly car free, undulating through vinyards and pretty towns on the Véloroute des Vignobles.
It would have been gorgeous, but for the continual drizzle. We are getting a bit fed up with getting soaked most days!

We took a long lunch break in a very good pizzeria which we chanced upon when the rain really started to come down hard.

After 75 soggy kilometres we arrived in Molsheim and found the campsite only to be greeted with the words "désolé, nous sommes complet" Apparently the Molsheim marathon is this weekend. The next campsite is another 15km, so we emphasised the smallness of our tent and the weather (whilst trying to look old, wet and tired - not very difficult!) and were taken pity on. There does seem to be a reaonable amount of space and we are relieved not to have to go further.

  2. I tried to persuade Ben to do it, but he felt that his cleated cycling sandals might cause trouble after a few miles!

  3. Hi Helen and Ben

I've been catching up with you Blogs and enjoying your every move from the comfort of my arm chair!

If it's any consolation you probably already know that it has hardly stopped raining in the U.K. for weeks!

We'll give you a warm and very well earned reception when, as we hope, you make it up to Belan.
    Much love
    Jean

  4. Hi Jean
Having sampled so much of it, we can assure you that the bad weather in the UK extends to most of Europe!
We're still hoping to join you at Belan and are on target to get home in time - but not to do enough practice!

  5. I was thinking of doing the marathon dressed as a cyclist and on a bike!
